19 Caleb Smith State Park/Preserve  Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown, NY 11787 F  NT   (631) 265-1054 543 A canoe ride down the beautiful Nissequogue River which runs through this scenic park is one of the best ways to spend a day open Long Island.  Hiking, cross country skiing, nature trails and fishing all located in the middle of Smithtown on the north shore of Suffolk county.  Fly fishing is a favorite here. 20 Camp Hero State Park 50 South Fairview Avenue (off Montauk Highway), Montauk Point, NY 11954 F  R  B  NT  PN  H   (631) 669-1000 415 The most spectacular views of the mighty Atlantic ocean are from these bluffs within sight of the Montauk Lighthouse.  Maybe the coolest park on Long Island since it once housed a military installation whose history includes missile defense, rumored UFO sightings and a fake fishing village to hide cannons and other weaponry.  Fishermen now rule the roost and enjoy some of the best surf fishing on the Island.  Turtles Cove on the eastern edge is one of the best big wave surf spots on Long Island.  Lyme ticks and fierce riptides are hazards. 24 Caumsett State Historic Park  Lloyd Harbor Road, Lloyd Neck, NY 11743 F  R  B  NT  H   (631) 423-1770 1750 Caumsett State Park is an understated (but huge) gem on prime Gold Coast real estate in Lloyd Neck.  It offers hiking, bridle patch and nature trails through some of the most scenic north shore woodlands, meadows and shoreline on Long Island.  Mountain biking past  stunning north shore water views is a major draw.  Probably the biggest park no one knows.
